Modernist literature can be characterised by its questioning of the past through experimentation and free expression. Frost wasn’t an adherent of any particular poetic movement, but his imitation of natural speech in his poetry, as well as 19th-century poetic traditions reflect both a traditional and modernist influence. Whether the ideas perceived are from the author or someone else's point of view it's about taking chances in life and not always following the "map". This may be his independent spirit that helped make this choice. He went with the road he thought was less traveled. In the last stanza's, the traveler talks about how he had to make the decision and not that he wishes he could have taken both, but he is happy with his choice. Everyone wants to think they chose the right path and move on. This is a common predicament in people's everyday lives choosing a "road" or path of life. The traveler was conflicted with the decision to make " And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood",He decides to take the second road and thought to himself he could take the other one another day, even though he knew he would probably never be back there again. "Because it was grassy and wanted wear", says that this path wants to be traveled. He has come to realize that each road has the same amount of wear than the other. These two roads are equally appealing or equally intimidating. In this poem, Frost sets up a scenario of two possible paths. The idea is alluded by the reference in the different looking paths. One looks to be a fairly traveled road, whereas the other seems to be covered in grass and less wear. It's the morning of an autumn day and a young man is traveling by foot to a fork in the road.
